Samih al-Qasim Foundation

In 2017, three years after the passing of Samih Al Qasim, his wife, Nawal Al Qasim, and his four children, Watan, Wadah, Omar, and Yasir decided to honor their father by establishing a foundation in his name. Watan, the oldest of the brothers, is the executive director of the foundation. The establishment of the foundation brought on the idea of a Museum and Cultural Center on behalf of the great poet. On the fourth anniversary of his passing the design of the center was complete. From day one, the day after the funeral, the poets family has taken it upon themselves to fund every publication, event, or campaign in the name of Samih Al Qasim, understanding that the poets family does not only consist of the five of them but of them and the free people of the world.
The foundation’s mission is to commemorate the great poets’ life’s work as well as use the Museum and Cultural Center to inspire young creative minds, hold cultural and artistic events, produce films, and translate and showcase the work of the late Samih Al Qasim.
